Article of a neuroscientist who talks about the subject. Surprisingly he talks about math education and says something similar. The last paragraph of the article says…

““ … As a neuroscientist, he considers it “fundamental” to understand why someone can memorize the order of a deck of cards in 27 seconds and assures that it has clinical and educational applications. “You talk to teachers all over the country and they all tell you that the main difficulty for a child in learning basic mathematics is when he gets it into his head that he can’t,” he says. “If you are a boy, a father or a teacher, and you see these chantas saying that they were born for that, you can easily infer that if there are people who were born for that, you are not. And that makes many boys reinforce the idea that they were not born for that. That is why it is a dangerous message, because we give genetics a much more important role than it actually has for the acquisition of skills. The important thing about learning is to generate the disposition to make an effort to learn”.
